Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called on young men and women across the state to take advantage of the ongoing Nigerian Army 89 Regular Recruits Intake for Trades and Non-Tradesmen/Women before the registration closes on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Represented by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barrister. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, during a stakeholder engagement held at the palace of the Olofin of Isheri Olofin, the Governor emphasised the need to address the declining participation of indigenous youths in the Nigerian Army and other branches of the Armed Forces.

“It is time for all stakeholders to rethink their perceptions of military careers, today’s Army offers vast opportunities beyond the battlefield with technology, education, and career development now forming integral parts of service life.”

The engagement, which brought together parents, youths, traditional and religious leaders, and artisans, aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of joining the Army. Barr. Salu-Hundeyin noted that enlisting in the military not only allows one to serve the nation with pride but also opens doors to professional training in fields such as law, medicine, and aeronautics.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting candidates from Lagos by providing necessary welfare assistance to ensure their successful participation and well-being throughout their military journey.

Participants were informed that the recruitment exercise is state-specific, and applicants are required to have a minimum of four credits in their O’Level results obtained – either in one sitting or two – or to present a valid trade certificate. Registration is to be completed online.

In his response, the Olofin of Isheri Olofin, Oba (Dr.) Olasunkanmi Lawal-Bello, praised the State Government for its proactive outreach and pledged to rally young people within his domain to seize this opportunity. He also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to the implementation of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda which he also tenaciously aligns with in his kingdom, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.

The event was well-attended by local government officials, faith-based leaders, Baales, youth organizations, parents, and community members, including market men and women.
