In an unprecedented show of support, Nigerian online users are backing the Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji over the fake news published by a Nigerian news media that he has confessed to the fact that University of Nigeria (UNN) did not issue him a certificate.

The support is largely because of the way the Minister and his aides swiftly addressed the issue immediately it came.
When the issue initially broke out,
a registrar of the University, Mrs Celine Nlebedum responded to an enquiry by a media organisation confirming that the Minister was indeed a graduate of the University.

Few months ago, Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, former Secretary to the Enugu State Government and a former Commissioner for Education in Enugu State was appointed the Vice Chancellor and he hurriedly resurrected the case by writing a counter confirmation purporting to be a response to a request, that the Minister dropped out of the school. This has raised a lot of suspicion among the populace as to what his true intentions are.

What impressed Nigerians was how the Minister released his graduating class pictures and list of his classmates in response to the fake news.
One online user said “..the Minister has shown us how to honestly disproof allegations bordering on certificates. Some people would have sent the police after his accusers”

Another said “This Minister has won my heart . The man show receipts immediately. Ah ah “

” I like dragging all these APC people but this one no even give space make i drag am, e don go show receipt immediately ” nwatachimere onyeze

Some have taken the Vice Chancellors to the cleaners accusing him of doing a hatchet job.

The fake news was dead on arrival until it was picked up by a member of the Arise TV crew who commented on it on his X page amplifying the poorly scripted release.

People in Enugu believe the attempt to use the fake news against the Minister was a politically orchestrated attempt to hit him as a result of his role in Peter Mba’s certificate scandal case.
Some also speculate that the Minister has frustrated the Governor’s bid to join the APC who earned him the wrath of some of the Governor’s loyalists.
