Four people have died in a single auto crash that occurred in front of Christopher University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Eight other individuals sustained injuries in the accident, which involved a White Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL789YL.

Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi, who confirmed this, yesterday, to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, said that 13 people (11 adult males and two adult females) were involved in the crash, adding that eight people (seven males and one female adults) sustained injuries, while four others died on the spot.

Odunsi said that the accident, which occurred at about 9:18 p.m. on Easter Sunday night, was due to a tyre burst and speed violation, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

However, the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital at Loto-Mowe, for urgent medical attention, while the remains of the deceased individuals were deposited at Idera Morgue.

He said that the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Redeemed Police Station had taken custody of the crashed vehicle along with all recovered property and luggage belonging to the passengers for safe-keeping and further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, urging all motorists to strictly adhere to speed limits and ensure their tyres are in good condition.

Also, Spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, in a statement in Abeokuta, attributed the lone crash to excessive speed on the part of the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus.

He also confirmed that four people died and eight individuals (six males and two females) sustained injuries from the accident.

Akinbiyi stated that its officers and men of the FRSC and Nigeria Police, as well as OGSAES, were on ground for the rescue mission, noting that the four presumed dead bodies were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu, while the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention.
