The suspended senator for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge the federal government slammed against her for allegedly making a false assassination claim.
The embattled lawmaker who was earlier handed a six-month suspension by the Senate was docked before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sitting at Maitama.
She maintained her innocence after the charge was read to her before trial Justice Chizoba Orji.
FG is prosecuting her for allegedly making a false claim that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, were behind a plot to assassinate her.
In the charge marked CR/297/25, FG alleged that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was listed as the sole defendant, made the false and defamatory remarks when she appeared as a guest on live television.
It specifically accused her of making “imputation, knowing or having reason to believe that such imputation will harm the reputation of a person.”
According to the charge, by making such false imputation that tarnished the image of others, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan committed an offence under 391 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990.
It added that the alleged offence is punishable under section 392 of the same law.
Giving particulars of the offence in count one of the charge, FG told the court that the defendant committed the alleged crime on April 3, during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The lawmaker was said to have made an allegation that some politicians opposed to her were plotting to assassinate her.
Meanwhile, shortly after the defendant entered her plea, FG’s lawyer, Mr David Kaswe, applied for her to be remanded in a correctional facility, pending the determination of the case against her.
The prosecution insisted that the defendant posed a flight risk, alleging that it took several efforts to serve a copy of the charge on her.
However, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Mr. Roland Otaru, SAN, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on self-recognizance, insisting that the case against her is not an indictable offence.
Otaru, SAN, described the defendant as a distinguished senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has five local government areas under her constituency.
Noting that the maximum punishment for the charge against the defendant is two years imprisonment, the defence lawyer urged the court to exercise its discretion in her favour.
The court, in a ruling that was delivered by Justice Chizoba Orji, rejected application the Federal Government made for the defendant who was arraigned on a three-count charge, to be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of the case against her.
Justice Orji held that she found no reason to deny the defendant bail, saying there was sufficient evidence that she is willing to face her trial.
Consequently, aside from the N50m, the court held that the defendant must produce one surety who must be a person of integrity that owns a landed property in Abuja.
The court based its decision on section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, as well as section 163 and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
The case was subsequently adjourned till September 23 for trial.
Among those listed as witnesses in the matter were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and a former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who were cited as nominal complainants.
Other witnesses billed to testify in the case are two police officers that investigated the matter, Maya Iliya and Abdulhafiz Garba; a senator, Asuquo Ekpenyong; and one Sandra Duru.
The charge, dated May 16, came on the heels of a letter Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, wherein she accused police of exhibiting bias in the investigation of her petitions against the Senate President.
It will be recalled that the Federal High Court in Abuja had fixed June 27 to determine the legality or otherwise of the six-month suspension that was slammed on the defendant by the Senate.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan approached the court after she was summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee following a face-off she had with the Senate President during plenary on February 20.
While protesting the alleged arbitrary change of her seating position, she repeatedly raised a point of order to be allowed to speak, even though she had been overruled by the Senate President.
Irked by her conduct, the Senate President referred her case to the Ethics Committee.
In a television interview she granted on February 28, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that her travails in the Senate began after she rejected unwanted advances from the Senate President, Akpabio.
In an ex parte application she brought before the court, she applied for an order to declare any action the Senate Committee took within the pendency of her suit, including her suspension, as “null, void, and of no effect”.

An additional issue is that video games are usually serious in nature with the key focus on knowing things rather than enjoyment. Although, there’s an entertainment facet to keep your children engaged, every game is frequently designed to develop a specific set of skills or area, such as numbers or scientific research. Thanks for your post.

One thing I would like to say is that car insurance cancellation is a terrifying experience and if you’re doing the appropriate things as being a driver you’ll not get one. Some individuals do get the notice that they have been officially dropped by their own insurance company they then have to scramble to get further insurance following a cancellation. Low cost auto insurance rates are usually hard to get after the cancellation. Understanding the main reasons pertaining to auto insurance cancellation can help car owners prevent getting rid of in one of the most crucial privileges accessible. Thanks for the strategies shared through your blog.

I have discovered some important matters through your website post. One other stuff I would like to mention is that there are various games out there designed in particular for preschool age young children. They involve pattern acceptance, colors, wildlife, and forms. These often focus on familiarization in lieu of memorization. This keeps little kids occupied without sensing like they are studying. Thanks

One other thing is that an online business administration training is designed for people to be able to easily proceed to bachelor degree programs. The 90 credit college degree meets the other bachelor diploma requirements then when you earn the associate of arts in BA online, you should have access to up to date technologies on this field. Several reasons why students would like to get their associate degree in business is because they may be interested in this area and want to have the general education and learning necessary prior to jumping right into a bachelor education program. Thx for the tips you really provide within your blog.
One thing I would really like to reply to is that weight loss program fast can be performed by the perfect diet and exercise. Ones size not merely affects appearance, but also the actual quality of life. Self-esteem, despression symptoms, health risks, and physical ability are damaged in extra weight. It is possible to do everything right and still gain. In such a circumstance, a medical problem may be the reason. While a lot food rather than enough work out are usually at fault, common health concerns and trusted prescriptions may greatly add to size. Many thanks for your post in this article.
Along with every thing that appears to be building inside this specific area, your opinions are actually very refreshing. Nonetheless, I beg your pardon, but I can not subscribe to your whole idea, all be it radical none the less. It appears to everybody that your commentary are generally not completely rationalized and in simple fact you are generally your self not really totally confident of the argument. In any event I did enjoy examining it.
Thanks for the various tips discussed on this blog site. I have realized that many insurance firms offer customers generous special discounts if they prefer to insure many cars together. A significant amount of households own several vehicles these days, particularly those with more mature teenage children still located at home, along with the savings with policies might soon mount up. So it pays off to look for a great deal.
I believe that avoiding prepared foods is the first step for you to lose weight. They will often taste beneficial, but processed foods possess very little nutritional value, making you take more just to have enough electricity to get through the day. For anyone who is constantly feeding on these foods, switching to whole grains and other complex carbohydrates will assist you to have more electricity while eating less. Interesting blog post.

Thanks for the interesting things you have exposed in your article. One thing I want to reply to is that FSBO associations are built eventually. By launching yourself to owners the first weekend their FSBO is usually announced, ahead of the masses start out calling on Thursday, you generate a good network. By giving them resources, educational components, free accounts, and forms, you become a good ally. If you take a personal affinity for them plus their problem, you generate a solid link that, in many cases, pays off once the owners decide to go with a real estate agent they know as well as trust — preferably you.
Very good blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely confused .. Any suggestions? Appreciate it!
Interesting post here. One thing I’d like to say is that often most professional areas consider the Bachelors Degree like thejust like the entry level standard for an online college degree. Even though Associate Qualifications are a great way to get started on, completing your Bachelors opens many good opportunities to various careers, there are numerous on-line Bachelor Diploma Programs available through institutions like The University of Phoenix, Intercontinental University Online and Kaplan. Another thing is that many brick and mortar institutions provide Online variants of their diplomas but commonly for a drastically higher price than the companies that specialize in online diploma programs.
I believe one of your ads triggered my web browser to resize, you may well want to put that on your blacklist.
I’m really impressed along with your writing skills and also with the layout in your weblog. Is this a paid subject or did you customize it your self? Anyway keep up the nice high quality writing, it is rare to peer a nice blog like this one these days..

Thanks for this glorious article. Yet another thing to mention is that most digital cameras can come equipped with a new zoom lens so that more or less of that scene being included by way of ‘zooming’ in and out. These changes in {focus|focusing|concentration|target|the a**** length are reflected inside viewfinder and on huge display screen at the back of the actual camera.
Thanks for your content. One other thing is when you are disposing your property yourself, one of the problems you need to be mindful of upfront is when to deal with property inspection reviews. As a FSBO seller, the key towards successfully switching your property in addition to saving money in real estate agent revenue is knowledge. The more you recognize, the softer your home sales effort will be. One area where this is particularly crucial is home inspections.

Thanks for the points you have discussed here. Something else I would like to express is that computer memory specifications generally increase along with other advancements in the technologies. For instance, any time new generations of processors are brought to the market, there’s usually a similar increase in the scale calls for of both computer system memory and hard drive room. This is because the program operated by way of these cpus will inevitably surge in power to benefit from the new technological innovation.

In the grand design of things you’ll get an A with regard to hard work. Where you lost me ended up being on all the particulars. You know, it is said, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be more accurate right here. Having said that, allow me inform you what exactly did deliver the results. The writing can be rather engaging which is most likely why I am making the effort in order to comment. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. 2nd, although I can easily notice the jumps in reason you come up with, I am definitely not convinced of just how you seem to connect the points which produce the actual final result. For the moment I will, no doubt subscribe to your issue however wish in the foreseeable future you link your facts much better.

I have realized some new elements from your site about computer systems. Another thing I’ve always assumed is that computer systems have become something that each household must have for many reasons. They offer convenient ways in which to organize the home, pay bills, shop, study, pay attention to music and even watch tv programs. An innovative solution to complete many of these tasks is a laptop. These pc’s are portable ones, small, potent and lightweight.
My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find many of your post’s to be just what I’m looking for. Would you offer guest writers to write content to suit your needs? I wouldn’t mind creating a post or elaborating on a few of the subjects you write in relation to here. Again, awesome weblog!

There are many cases where this is correct because you could find that you do not employ a past credit score so the loan provider will require that you’ve someone cosign the credit for you. One other thing I would like to convey is that as an alternative to trying to suit all your online degree tutorials on days and nights that you complete work (as most people are exhausted when they return), try to have most of your classes on the weekends and only one or two courses on weekdays, even if it means taking some time off your weekend break. This is beneficial because on the weekends, you will be a lot more rested plus concentrated with school work. Thanks alot : ) for the different points I have discovered from your site.

Thanks a lot for your post. I’d really like to write my opinion that the cost of car insurance varies from one insurance plan to another, since there are so many different issues which contribute to the overall cost. One example is, the make and model of the car will have a large bearing on the purchase price. A reliable old family automobile will have a more affordable premium over a flashy sports vehicle.
