Residents of Ilaje Road in the Bariga area of Lagos have staged a protest against the recent decision of the Bariga Local Council Development Area, LCDA, to rename the road after music legend, King Sunny Ade.
The protest, which took place on Wednesday, drew community members who described the renaming as a disregard for their heritage and an attempt to erase their cultural identity.
The controversial name change was reportedly approved by the immediate past LCDA chairman, David Kolade Alabi, just before the end of his tenure, despite earlier opposition from residents.
Addressing the protesters, the Baale of Ilaje/Bariga, High Chief Kayode Ayetiwa, disclosed that the newly sworn-in LCDA chairperson, Bukola Adedeji, had called him ahead of the protest, appealing for patience and promising to reverse the decision. However, the community proceeded with the protest and also submitted a formal petition to the council.
Ayetiwa stressed that the name Ilaje Road has been in existence since 1948 and represents an important part of the community’s history and identity.
“We will not allow the legacy and name of Ilaje Road to be erased, no matter how prominent the individual chosen for the renaming may be,” the Baale said.
The community’s protest letter described the former chairman’s action as unconstitutional and carried out without the consent of local councillors.
Raphael Irowanu, President General of Egbe Omo Ilaje, voiced concerns about what he called a larger pattern of marginalisation, noting that the Ilaje population in Lagos State numbers around four million people with strong ancestral ties to Yoruba history.
According to him, the road renaming, coupled with ongoing demolitions affecting the community, points to an attempt to displace and undermine the Ilaje people.
He warned that continued disregard for their concerns could have political repercussions for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 elections.
While acknowledging that King Sunny Ade, like the Ilaje people, hails from Ondo State, Irowanu maintained that naming the road after the musician would only create division rather than foster unity.
Protesters displayed placards calling for the restoration of the road’s original name and insisting that Ilaje Road remains a symbol of their history and must not be changed.

Thanks for these guidelines. One thing I also believe is always that credit cards featuring a 0 interest rate often attract consumers along with zero interest rate, instant authorization and easy online balance transfers, however beware of the most recognized factor that may void your own 0 easy neighborhood annual percentage rate and also throw anybody out into the poor house rapidly.

This is fantastic because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be extra rested along with concentrated upon school work. Thx for the different tips I have acquired from your website.

One other thing is that many digital cameras come equipped with the zoom lens that allows more or less of that scene to generally be included by simply ‘zooming’ in and out. These kinds of changes in {focus|focusing|concentration|target|the a**** length tend to be reflected in the viewfinder and on huge display screen on the back of the exact camera.

One thing I would like to say is that often car insurance termination is a dreadful experience and if you are doing the correct things as being a driver you won’t get one. Lots of people do receive the notice that they have been officially dumped by the insurance company they have to scramble to get supplemental insurance after the cancellation. Low cost auto insurance rates usually are hard to get after the cancellation. Understanding the main reasons regarding auto insurance cancellations can help owners prevent burning off one of the most significant privileges accessible. Thanks for the strategies shared through your blog.

Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. One thing I have actually noticed is the fact there are plenty of fallacies regarding the lenders intentions if talking about home foreclosure. One delusion in particular would be the fact the bank would like your house. The bank wants your dollars, not your house. They want the funds they loaned you along with interest. Steering clear of the bank will draw some sort of foreclosed summary. Thanks for your write-up.
Great blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your theme. Kudos

The things i have generally told men and women is that while searching for a good on-line electronics store, there are a few variables that you have to consider. First and foremost, you would like to make sure to find a reputable as well as reliable retailer that has received great reviews and ratings from other customers and industry leaders. This will ensure you are dealing with a well-known store providing you with good service and help to its patrons. Many thanks sharing your notions on this site.

I really believe that a property foreclosure can have a major effect on the applicant’s life. Real estate foreclosures can have a 8 to a decade negative relation to a client’s credit report. The borrower having applied for a home loan or almost any loans for instance, knows that the particular worse credit rating is actually, the more complicated it is to secure a decent mortgage loan. In addition, it could possibly affect the borrower’s power to find a decent place to let or hire, if that results in being the alternative housing solution. Good blog post.

One more thing. I believe that there are numerous travel insurance web-sites of reputable companies that allow you to enter your journey details and have you the quotations. You can also purchase the international travel cover policy on-line by using your current credit card. All you need to do is always to enter all travel specifics and you can start to see the plans side-by-side. Only find the package that suits your budget and needs then use your bank credit card to buy that. Travel insurance on the web is a good way to start looking for a reliable company to get international holiday insurance. Thanks for revealing your ideas.
