Joseph Gbenu, ex-chairman of Badagry-West LCDA, has declared his intention to contest Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly.
Mr Gbenu confirmed his aspiration on Sunday during a consultative meeting with APC leaders and stakeholders in Badagry.
He said the engagement was to formally notify party leadership, seek guidance and reaffirm his commitment to party processes ahead of the elections.
“I am not here to present a manifesto today. There has been publicity online about my intention. Today, I am here to officially begin my journey into the race for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Badagry Constituency I,” he said.
Mr Gbenu restated that his visit was consultative, noting that details of his legislative agenda would be unveiled at a later stage.
He pledged loyalty to the party and its leadership, stressing his commitment to unity, discipline and grassroots representation.
“I promise to remain loyal, dedicated and committed to the party, the leaders and the people,” he said.
Mr Gbenu’s campaign director-general, Yahaya Lateef, described the politician as experienced, citing his record in local governance and community engagement.
“Leadership is about capacity, track record and connection with the people. Gbenu is prepared for this responsibility,” Mr Lateef said.
He noted that consulting party leaders first reflected respect for internal structures and political processes.
Mr Lateef added that Gbenu’s tenure as chairman recorded strong performance, including community-based initiatives and empowerment programmes.
“This is a public office. Everyone has the right to contest, and Gbenu has formally declared his intention,” he said.
Joseph Bamgbose of Apex Leaders Forum in Badagry-West LCDA, commended Mr Gbenu for engaging party elders and adhering to due process.
