The All Progressives Congress’s Kaduna State Chapter has suspended Maryam Suleiman, the Women’s Leader, for berating Governor Uba Sani over the enormous debt that was carried over from the previous government.

This came as the governor’s spokesperson, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu, informed The PUNCH that in retaliation for the governor’s criticism, the governor would not elevate the son of the governor who was in office at the time, Nasir El-Rufai Bashir.

In a notice dated March 31, 2024, the Kaduna APC claimed that the Women Leader had been suspended due to alleged serious misconduct.

Ali Maishago, the APC Chairman, and Zakkah Bassahuwa, the Ward Secretary for Badarawa/Malali, both signed the notice of suspension. The party accused Suleiman of carrying out actions to tarnish the governor’s reputation. The Kaduna State governor had, on Saturday, during a Town Hall Meeting, lamented the huge debt inherited from his predecessor, El-Rufai.

Sani said the state was left with a lean purse and too broke to pay workers’ salaries. The governor said El-Rufai left him $587m, N85bn and 115 contractual liabilities.”We are steadfast in guiding Kaduna State toward progress and sustainable development, even in the face of the enormous debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and N115 billion contractual liabilities that were regrettably left over from the previous administration.Sani had declared, “We have carried out a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly.

“Nonetheless, the governor was chastised by the APC women’s leader for his comments in a widely shared video that she made in Hausa. Suleiman accused Governor Sani of poor leadership in the aforementioned video that was shared on social media, and he counseled him against placing the blame for his shortcomings on El-Rufai.

However, the Kaduna APC claimed in the suspension notice that Suleiman had planned an allegedly thugs-only attack on the governor’s political advisor, Manzo Maigari. The party declared that Suleiman’s suspension would be in place indefinitely pending the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the allegations, citing Article 21, 2(v) of the APC Constitution. El-Rufai’s son attacked Governor Sani on X due to the state’s high debt load, and the governor would not respond.

Bashir, El-Rufai’s son, accused Sani, his father’s successor, on social media of avoiding his responsibilities by avoiding the state and hibernating in Abuja.El-Rufai, who was still a young man, accused the governor of surrounding himself with a group of aides who were chosen based on political connections. When prompted to respond to Bashir’s assertion, the governor’s spokesperson insisted that his principal had made clear what was evident about the state’s financial situation. We refuse to exchange the massive task we have ahead of us for unimportant things.

The genuine financial situation of the state has been unambiguously stated by His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, according to Shehu. In Ogun, armed men rob tourists and set a bus on fire. They lit the 59-seater luxury bus on fire and locked us inside.
