Following their humiliating elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations last Sunday, the Egyptian Football Association has severed its ties with Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria.

With the appointment of former coach Mohamed Youssef on an interim basis, EFA announced his dismissal on Sunday.

After a 1-1 draw after extra time in San Pedro, the record seven-time African champions fell to the Democratic Republic of Congo 8-7 on penalties.On Sunday, EFA expressed gratitude to Roy Vitoria and his support staff.

The Egyptian Football Association’s Board of Directors decided to thank Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria and his assistant staff for their work in the national team’s 2023 African Nations Championship in Ivory Coast.

They also decided to study the biographies of foreign coaches and present them at the next meeting.

This decision was made after the board met today to discuss the technical and administrative reports.In order to secure a foreign technical director and fill out the staff, the Council agreed to endorse Mohamed Youssef’s appointment as general coach of the first Egyptian national team.
