Babuga Lede, 25, was remanded in the correctional facility by an Ekiti State Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday due to his alleged involvement in the murder of two traditional rulers in the state.

On January 29, as they were traveling along the Oke Ako-Irele Road, gunmen ambushed and killed the traditional rulers, Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Samuel Olusola, the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti.

In their company was Oba Sunday Fatoba, the Alara of Ara (Ikole), who was their third colleague and somehow escaped the attack.

A police prosecutor named Yomi Osuolale informed the court during the suspect’s arraignment on Tuesday that “there is probably cause to order the remand of the defendant at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti.

“As stated by Osuolale, “There is a reasonable suspicion that the defendant conspired to kidnap, attempt to murder, and kill Oba Samuel Olatunde Ishola and Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin.”

“The defendant additionally made an attempt to abduct Bamidele Ibikunle Joseph, a driver, and Oba Samuel Adebayo Fatoba.In the Ekiti Magisterial District on January 29, 2024, “the offence is punishable under sections 280, 241, and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

“The defendant was apprehended in Ikole, Ekiti, on January 29, the police prosecutor informed the court, and he was armed.According to him, the Ekiti State Director of Public Prosecution has received the duplicate case file and has been notified to seek legal counsel.

The defendant was placed on remand at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Custody by the magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, pending the DPP’s legal advice.The case was postponed until April 24 by the magistrate so that it could be heard.
